New day

[Current Location |New Watchers Council Headquarters]
[Current Mood |busybusy]
[Current Music |If I could turn back time - Cher]

It'd taken thirty phone calls, ten favors, and a bottle of pure virgin's blood to finally get the demons to move. The Partners were highly impressed, and I was the talk of the office.

Now all that was left to do was pay Mr. Giles a visit. I grabbed all the necessary signed paperwork, and my ourse before heading out of the office. I got in my car and drove to the Watchers Counicl's new headqaurters.

A few ripples of ungoldly traffic later, I'd arrived. I parked my car at the gates, grabbed my purse and the packet holding the paperwork. I then walked inside, I stopped at the front desk,in their lavish looking lobby.

I shook my head as I looked around. 'They always did like to be showy' I thought as I looked at the young girl at the desk. I smiled my case winning smile. "Hello I'm here to see Mr. Rupert Giles. I have something for him"

((Open to Giles))

"It's an American prejudice, with the scones, isn't it?" I ask when my assistant leaves to get the coffee.

I love playing dumb sometimes. I sometimes thought that Anya did it on purpose. I feel a sharp pang in my heart remembering her. Anyanka, who lived for hundreds of years, dead, in bloody Sunnydale.

Lilah hands me the file assuring me that everything is solved. I take it trying to contain the unfortunately bad timing of the remembrance. I smile back at her, but I know the smile didn't reach my eyes this time.

"Thank you. They truly are a most bothersome species."

I look over the papers she's given me while my assistant goes through the little ritual of serving her coffee and my tea.

"I appreciate both the speed you displayed in the execution of this task, and your care to relocate them in another dimension," I say, careful to keep my eyes in the papers. "Most of all, I appreciate the personal delivery," I tell her, looking straight in her eyes.

I was going for a half old fashioned European courtesy, half sexual innuendo. It's strange that I don't feel self conscious doing it. I'm a Librarian, for crying out loud! Then again, I'm Ripper Giles, as well, aren't I?

"Would you care to join me for dinner? To celebrate our new and auspicious working relationship?"

"Yes that they are." I smiled at him as he looked over the paperwork. I took a few sips of the coffee. "I thought it was best to make sure you had them as soon as possible." I smiled again, as I set my cup down.

"And as for joining you for dinner, I'm not sure it'd be wise to mix pleasure with busniess"

"I am flattered you think I may enter the first category, Lilah," I say with the smile of an old man who knows when he is being lied to. "If you change your mind, I'll be at Cinnamon Club tonight, at seven."

I smiled and sipped some of my tea,as I listened to him talk. "You're welcome, and if I can manage to get away from work, maybe I'll see you there." I glanced at my watch,I still had a few hours before I needed to be back at the office. "So other than the skilosh problem everything else is running smoothly for the Council?"

I shrug. What the hell? She doesn't want to leave, I'm game.

"When do things ever run smoothly?" I ask rhetorically. "Would you care for a tour? The abridged version, of course," I add with a smile, in deference to her evil status.

My skin crawls at the idea of having the bitch queen of Wolfram and Hart in our headquarters, but since someone was able to break in and leave a note on my desk, I don't think the damage would be too serious. Besides, I have every intention to show her the plaque which has the names of all the people who were Head Boy and Head Girl in the Academy. I'm sure there's a name in there she'll react to.

I just nodded at his rhetorical question, and finished my coffee. I blinked. He wants to give me a tour of the place? I glanced at my watch again, then looked back at him with a smile. "A tour would be great, and I'd expect nothing less from the Council."

I understood their reasons for not wanting someone in my line of work, being able to see all the important parts of the facuilty. Wolfram and hart was the same way when Angel and his friends got their tour.

I set my empty coffee cup down, and stood up to follow him out of the office.

I give her the visitors' tour. Nothing she didn't already know, I'm sure. She's probably not impressed. Let's go for the money shot.

"I don't know how much this may mean to you, but I want you to see what you saved," I tell her while we walk into a display section of the library.

We keep certain prize manuscripts in here. As well as the honor plaque.

"This isn't a recruitment center, so we don't have many images, but here's what we have," I say, and lead her in front of a wall with pictures of Eilean Donan castle, pictures of the grounds, and several breathtakingly beautiful aerial shots.

"Here's a honor plaque of all the people who were Head Girl and Head Boy in the Academy. I was less than peaceful and studious in my youth, so you won't find my name among them."

I run my hand over the rows of names on the marble plaque, making sure her gaze falls on Wesley Wyndham-Pryce as she follows my movement. I keep talking while I watch her.

"The cross you see after some names indicates that they died in the line of duty. We have no insignia for fallen Watchers," I say, flicking a finger over the name Gwendolyn Post.

I'm sure Lilah knows about Gwendolyn Post, the Watcher who led Faith astray. After all, not so long ago, Lilah hired Faith to kill Angel. I'm also sure, that when I mentioned fallen Watchers, Lilah's eyes were on another name and her mind on another person.

When the memory fades, I hope she might consider how can she plot my own downfall. I need her to think that she can trap me.

I followed him around and just nodded and smiled as he talked. I glanced at the manuscripts and photos. I stopped and took a long look at the marble plaque. I noted all the names and the crosses next to a lot of them.

I found Wesley's name easily. I sighed in relief that he didn't have a cross next to his name. I was still looking at Wesley's name, as I spoke. "Perhaps you should come up with a more honorable insignia"

I turned back around to face him, trying to keep my voice from showing any bitterness or sadness. "It's quite an exquisite room. I'd expect nothing less from such an establishment." I gave him a smile, a genuine smile.
